On Nov. 4, 2019, at 12:01 a.m., former Councilman Jeff Shoobridge officially resigned as the City of Groveland’s District 5 Representative, to accept a job offer out of state.  The City of Groveland called for a Special Municipal Election to fill the vacancy, whose qualifying period for the election began Thursday, Dec. 5, 2019, from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., and closed Friday, Dec. 6, 2019, at 12:01 p.m., resulting in two qualifying candidates; Margie Jones and Interim Councilman, Randolph Waite.

The special election is set to be held Tuesday, March 17, 2020.
