Clermont, FL (June 4, 2023) – South Lake welcomed thousands of people at the Clermont Waterfront Park to celebrate Caribbean heritage on Saturday, June 3, 2023, hosted by the Caribbean American Association of Lake County. The Chamber was honored to participate in the opening ceremony where hundreds of Caribbean countries were represented during the Island Flag Parade. This family-fun event featured jerk-style chicken and pork, tropical drinks, live music, and more! This cultural event supports the Lake Steel Orchestra and raises funds for scholarships awarded to Lake County high school seniors.

The City of Groveland and the City of Clermont prepare to honor African American history during their Juneteenth Celebrations on Friday, June 16, 2023, from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. at Lake David Park and on Saturday, June 17, 2023, from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Clermont’s Waterfront Park. These festive events welcome all to enjoy cultural food, music, vendors, and more!

Juneteenth is an important day in American History. On June 19, 1865, Union General Gordon Granger told enslaved African Americans they were free. This historic moment took place two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed by President Lincoln. Juneteenth is a time for reflection, education, and celebration of African American culture and achievements.
