May 1, 2023…..  It all started in 1886 when a small group of people from Clermont and neighboring towns met in the upper room of M.E. Wilson’s General Merchandise Store on the southeast corner of 8th & Montrose Street.  They would hold weekly church services with occasional guest pastors, prayer, hymns, and discuss God’s word.  Over 132 years later, the First United Methodist Church now becomes Living Hope Church – A Wesleyan Community.

“For the last few years our church has been visioning, praying, and asking God to lead us into our new name,” said Rev. Doug Kokx, Senior Pastor. “Our church has had three different names throughout its long history, and we are excited to begin this new chapter as Living Hope Church.”

The new name reflects the church’s commitment to providing hope and strength to the South Lake community through God’s word and the Holy Spirit. The name is inspired by the resurrection of Jesus Christ, as it represents the living hope found in Him.  The new tag line, A Wesleyan Community, reminds everyone that the church remains grounded in his teachings and the values that define the church.

There are many exciting things happening at the church during this season of rebranding.  As they propel into the future as Living Hope Church, they are making a difference in the community with vibrant ministries such as Wesley Christian Academy (WCA), Celebrate Recovery, Food Ministry, Children’s Ministry, Seventh Street Students, and more.

You’re invited to experience Living Hope Church in person or online.  The church continues to gather on Sunday mornings with traditional and contemporary services at 8am/9:30am/11am, Wednesdays at 6:30pm, and Celebrate Recovery on Thursdays at 7:00pm. The campus is located in beautiful downtown Clermont, 950 Seventh Street, Clermont, FL  34711.  352-394-2412. For more information, visit www.LivingHope.Today.
