The South Lake Chamber’s Business After Hours sponsored by the Minneola Artworx was buzzing with excitement during the unveiling of the Murals on the Trail project on Thursday, May 4th, 2023. This ambitious task aims to bring art and culture to the US-27 overpass on the Minneola Trail by showcasing murals created by local artists. Minneola Artworx, led by Lisa Jones, consists of five dedicated volunteers who have committed to Minneola’s first major art project.

The Murals on the Trail is a partnership between the City of Minneola and the Minneola Artworx Team. The mission of this group is to create an artistic scene that brings the community together and encourages the growth of local businesses that have supported this project.

The Murals on the Trail include 20 spaces of artwork painted on concrete walls with a 10-year life expectancy. This project also displays four Minneola schools painted by their own students.

Chamber members and staff enjoyed a hayride with local artist Marie Dudek Brown, who painted the “Nurture Nature” piece displayed on the trail. The mission of her artwork is to acknowledge heartbreaking events and offer comfort to individuals and families who experience loss. “This mural was created to visually display healing within our community,” said Ms. Brown.

The Murals on the Trails project is a unique way to showcase the unity and diversity of South Lake to residents and visitors. The Minneola Artworx Team and the City of Minneola are excited to unveil this artwork installation to the community in the hope of fostering an appreciation for art and culture.
