As isolation continues to impact local seniors, Home Instead of Clermont has launched the important Be a Santa to a Senior program, promising a season of holiday cheer. Be A Santa to a Senior® supports older adults who may be overlooked, isolated or alone during the holiday season. This local program gives back to older adults and reminds them they are cherished by our community.
By working with LovExtension to reach older adults in our community to whom this would make the most impact, and with South Lake Hospital and Beals to display the angel trees, Home Instead of Clermont was able to provide gifts to over 100 seniors in the community.
“We’ve all experienced feelings of loneliness during the pandemic, and seniors are at a particularly high risk for isolation,” said Cheryl Hernandez, owner of the Home Instead office serving Lake and Sumter counties. “Be a Santa to a Senior shows the older adults in our community that they are valued and thought of during the holidays.”
Next year, they are hoping to expand their efforts with a goal of doubling the outreach and commitment to their community through the Be a Santa to a Senior program.
