February 2, 2022 – Mixing hobbies with business is something many ponder on, but few step into unfamiliar waters to explore what could be life changing. Often, fear of the unknown prevents potential aspiring entrepreneurs from the experience of what could be. “Don’t Hesitate, don’t look back wishing you did it and if you have the means, go for it” said Scott and Suzanne Powers, owners of Barrels & Boards in Groveland, FL.
Scott and Suzanne, both from New York, moved to Florida in the early 2000s and would eventually meet one another after settling in Groveland, FL. Scott is an experienced manager who oversaw the day to day of a Mattress Firm store, whereas Suzanne devoted herself to teaching for over 17 years in various elementary schools. Although they were extremely motivated in their careers, there was still a missing element. Scott and Suzanne developed a plan to explore tastings in the craft beer hotspot known as Lexington, KY, and drew further inspiration during the Downtown Clermont’s Wine Stroll. After gathering research and implementing strategies geared for their success, they established Barrels & Boards, LLC. in April 2021 and held their official grand opening in October 2021.
Barrels & Boards is a local restaurant based in Groveland who focuses on high quality wine, variety of food boards, craft beers, and specialty beers. Their collection of beers and wines consist of 40 to 50 different options while delivering fresh products with daily shipments. Indulge in boards ranging from charcuterie, dips, and desserts while enjoying this relaxing atmosphere. Barrels & Boards welcome walk-ins, reservations, private and corporate events. When visiting this local restaurant, customers may participate in their “Drink It Forward” campaign where drinks are purchased for others in the community. This new and thriving restaurant is solidifying themselves as the new hang out spot in South Lake.
