Insight Credit Union, a member of the South Lake Chamber, donated 12 printers, worth about $3,000, to the Educational Foundation of Lake County on May 25.
The printers will be available to teachers in the county through Apple-Mart, a store created by the Educational Foundation where teachers can shop for free. Teachers are given a pass to the store at the beginning of the school year and are able to shop at Apple-Mart once a month. There are three Apple-Mart locations in the county, all of which are stocked by donations and run by volunteers.
Bob and Julie Bennett were named the Gem of the Hills at the Chamber’s May 20th monthly breakfast. The Bennetts were honored for their work at the Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry at the Montverde United Methodist Church.
Bridgette M. Bennett was named the Young Professionals Member of the Month for May. Bridgette has been an immigration attorney for the past five years, thought she never seriously considered becoming an attorney until 2008.
After living in Washington, D.C. for a few years, Bridgette relocated to Groveland in 2005 to be with her ill mother, and after fighting her husband's deportation case for eight years, Bridgette decided to attend law school full time in the summer of 2008, with the goal of helping others who were facing deportation.
